Leeds Beckett - Let's Do This Together
Formed almost 200 years ago, Leeds Beckett University has become one of the most popular institutions in the UK. Leeds Beckett boasts five-star QS ratings for employability, facilities, inclusiveness and internationalisation. The university also holds silver status in the Teaching Excellence Framework, as well as enviable employability stats.
One of the largest universities in the UK, Leeds Beckett University has over 23,000 students from 143 countries around the world. The institution is committed to providing a friendly environment for all international students, starting with a dedicated activities week for overseas students when they arrive at the university.
Prospective students have a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses to pick from. With an ongoing investment of GBP 200 million in campus facilities, students will be using state-of-the-art equipment so that they can graduate feeling ready for whatever the world of work expects of them.
This, along with a dedicated careers service for students, has contributed to 90 per cent of all graduates from Leeds Beckett being in work or further study within 15 months after completing their degrees.
Leeds Beckett is held in high esteem all around the world and thanks to its strong links with industry, students do their work placements at local, regional and internationally renowned organisations.
Located in Leeds, a student-centred city, there are countless exciting activities for students to enjoy outside of their studies. What’s more, London can be reached by train in two hours, so Leeds is a perfect base for those who are keen to visit other areas of the UK and Europe.
Prospective Leeds Beckett students can now get a first-hand perspective of life at the university. Current students are happy to discuss courses, facilities and student life in the bustling city of Leeds to give a true idea of what life is like at Leeds Beckett.
In 2020 the university’s new GBP 45 million sports building was completed. This new facility is home to dedicated research laboratories, a 60 metre indoor athletics track, nutrition teaching kitchen, high performance strength and conditioning facility, human movement research laboratory, two environmental chambers and a Performance Analysis Lab in partnership with Catapult.
In 2021 the university’s GBP 80 million School of Arts building will open and will be packed with the latest specialist facilities. These include professional TV, film and music recording studios, a performance theatre and Dolby Atmos movie cinema.
For international students, it is not always possible to travel to university open days to see where they will study. Leeds Beckett University has a virtual open day allowing students to explore the entire campus from the comfort of their own homes. This allows students to see where they could be studying, view course facilities, accommodation and the library, as well as taking a tour of Leeds city centre. The virtual open day is an immersive and comprehensive experience, giving students the best possible insight into life at the university.
In its most recent assessment, Leeds Beckett University has achieved silver status in the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF), an award recognised nation-wide for the quality of education.

Having been offered a scholarship and the opportunity to study abroad, Sri Lankan artist Priyantha chose the UK to further develop his talent. After meeting a representative from Leeds Metropolitan in 2006, Priyantha joined our University to study for his masters and was more than happy to stay on to study for his PhD. Since becoming a student in this country, Priyantha has noticed distinct differences in both the education system and the attitudes towards his work, and has been able to grow and develop as an artist because of this. He says: “Contemporary Fine Art Practice is very well established in the UK and my study at Leeds Metropolitan has helped me develop my techniques in modern media.” Priyantha’s childhood was blighted by his country’s civil unrest and it was these memories combined with his contemporary artistic flair that inspired him to produce his Phd entitled ‘Rediscovering Paradise - painting, representing and revision of identities’. Speaking about his work, Priyantha said: “My art is a new form of landscape, one which exemplifies terror and beauty in one place. The viewer takes in a false sense of beauty before the revelation of the displaced sense of agonising beauty. “The art deals with the day-to-day life where crisis has penetrated the norm and disrupts the perceptions of an idyllic place as portrayed in tourist brochures and promotional material.” Priyantha has exhibited his work in both the UK and Sri Lanka, as well as in numerous international venues including The Cross Art Project in Sydney and the Lalith Kala Academy Gallery New Delhi.+ Read more - Show less

Mohamed Al-Daradji is a successful film director and has received nominations for Oscar and Golden Globe awards. Mohamed studied our MA Film and Moving Image Production course (now MA Filmmaking) where he specialised in cinematography. It was during his time at Leeds Metropolitan that he directed his debut feature film 'Ahlaam' which was nominated for Oscar and Golden Globe Awards in 2007. Mohamed’s second feature film, 'Son of Babylon' was shown at the world renowned Sundance, a key annual international festival for independent cinema, in January 2011. Mohamed was recently the subject of an interview in the Guardian. Guardian journalist Kate Connolly writes: What is most remarkable about 'Son of Babylon' is that it was made at all. Filmed entirely on location in Iraq, its makers took the decision that if it was worth doing, the project had to be made in situ, in tribute to the war-torn land and its long-suffering citizens. "I had invitations to film it in Jordan and Morocco," says Al-Daradji. But, he says, "we were not just making a film. I was making it for my family, for Iraq, for a nation which exists, but has not yet been discovered by the outside world. Which exists, arguably, only because we've filmed here."+ Read more - Show less
