RGU has been named Scottish University of the Year in the Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2021.
This accolade was awarded to RGU after the university performed extremely well in a number of areas such as teaching quality, student satisfaction, graduate employability and industry engagement. The university also placed:
RGU’s teaching quality has been acknowledged for its high standard as it was awarded a gold rating, the highest accolade, in the Teaching Excellence Framework, which looks at teaching, learning and outcomes for students. This places RGU in the top 20 per cent of universities in the UK.
Its educators work passionately with industrial organisations, research institutes, government departments and professional bodies to develop students beyond their degrees and into full time employment.

RGU has invested GBP 120 million into the modern Garthdee campus, and it has exceptional facilities for students to make use of.
State-of-the-art and specialist facilities help students excel in their specific field. For art and design this includes a glass and ceramics workshop, fashion manufacture workshop, painting studios, photographic darkroom studio, printmaking workshop and more. For engineering, this includes a DART Simulator, electrical power laboratory, nanocomposite manufacturing facility, wave tank, wind tunnel to name a few. For health and life sciences there is an analytical science lab, cell culture lab, clinical skills centre, human performance laboratory, radiography suite, forensic imaging laboratory, and a mock crime scene facility. For law, there’s a moot court and law clinic.
As well as excellent teaching facilities, students can make the most of the university’s recreational facilities. Sports facilities include a sports hall, pool, climbing wall, a studio available for hire, gyms with personal training offers and a range of classes. There is also a physiotherapy treatment clinic and a range of sports clubs and societies. Catering outlets can be found across campus serving a variety of food including halal and vegan options.
The university is able to offer safe, secure and affordable accommodation for students who would like to live in university accommodation. This can be a good way to integrate into the student community, especially for first year students and international students. There are four sites across the city, with a range of flats and facilities to choose from.
A striking building at the heart of campus, the new library building opened in 2013 and has four floors with over 250 workstations.
There are a number of scholarships available with international students in mind.
A scholarship available to full-time on campus students undertaking an undergraduate course, it offers one year’s full tuition fees and is awarded based on academic merits. Students must have been offered a place, be self-funding and pay international fees.
A scholarship available to full-time on-campus master’s students, it offers a GBP 2,000 discount on the tuition fees and is for students who have met the academic entry requirements for their course, are self-funding and paying international fees.
A scholarship available to full time on-campus undergraduate students, it offers a GBP 3,000 discount on one year of undergraduate tuition fees, and is for students who have met the academic entry requirements for their course, are self-funding and paying international fees.
There are also a range of scholarships from external groups, such as the Chevening Scholarship and Commonwealth Scholarship Commission which helps international students looking to study in the UK.
Students from India, Pakistan, China, Hong Kong, USA, Canada and Japan are eligible to apply for the external Saltire Scholarship award.
This award worth GBP 8,000 can be used towards tuition fees for any one year of full-time study on a postgraduate master’s programme.
RGU is ranked 1st in Scotland for graduate employability with 97.6 per cent of graduates entering employment and/or further study within six months of graduating (HESA published 2018). It is also 2nd in the UK and in the top 50 in the world for graduate employment (QS Graduate Employability Rankings 2020).
RGU puts graduate employability at the heart of their approach to teaching. Courses are developed in collaboration with industry specialists to ensure that the teaching reflects the world of work students will be joining. Many courses include professional experience opportunities and most are accredited by relevant professional bodies.
Placement teams across the schools help students find compulsory and optional work experience, delivering real experiences of the working world. The Innovation@RGU team also supports students from all subject areas with interest in self-employment, entrepreneurship, creating start-ups or developing spin outs through initiatives such as the Entrepreneurship Advancement Programme and the Startup Accelerator Scheme. There are also a number of opportunities for students to study abroad, helping to broaden their global perspectives further.
