International students receive excellent career support from the university, assisting them in identifying their aspirations and helping students develop the necessary skills and competencies to fulfil these ambitions. Graduates from the university enjoy success after leaving the university, with 94 per cent in work or further study after graduation (Destination of Leavers from Higher Education Survey 2016/17).
Professional Experience
The university provides dedicated support to students in assisting them to secure placements and internships while studying. The work experience gained by students is invaluable in developing their skills set. Students have the opportunity to experience the world of work ranging from a couple of weeks to a full year of professional placement.
Careers, coaching, support and networking
Professional careers consultants, as part of the Careers Service, with industry connections and networks support students during the course of their degree and for up to 18 months after graduation. The service is provided at no cost.
An annual survey done in 2020 showed that 98 per cent of users who had engaged with the Careers Service would recommend the service.
Hundreds of careers events are organised throughout the year, many of which are attended by employers from the university’s extensive network, including the annual Careers and Placements fair, all of which lead to networking opportunities.
Other avenues of career guidance and employment advice are the THRIVE Career Mentoring scheme offered in the penultimate year, and the MY Jobs Online service. The university’s alumni form a global community of more than 280,000 people, and contribute by mentoring students and providing work placements. Your association with the University will therefore continue long after you graduate.
