The University of Strathclyde is renovating its former students’ union building on John Street into a state-of-the-art hub for digital, entrepreneurial, and social innovation, thanks to a GBP 30 million donation from Strathclyde alumnus Dr. Charles Huang, founder of Pasaca Capital Inc.
The facility, to be named the Charles Huang Advanced Technology & Innovation Centre (CHATIC), is set to open in 2026. The 10-storey, 5,535-square-metre building, originally constructed in 1959, will undergo a refurbishment that cuts carbon emissions by 67 percent compared to new construction, preserving its historic significance for the university and the Glasgow community. Located in city’s Innovation District, CHATIC will support advancements in Health Technologies, 5G Communications, Industrial AI, FinTech, Quantum Technologies, and Space research, while also hosting hubs for entrepreneurship and social innovation, as well as co-working spaces for businesses.
CHATIC’s funding is part of Dr. Huang’s overall gift of GBP 50 million, the largest in Strathclyde’s history. This funding package also helped to establish the Stephen Young Institute for International Business, funded two professorial chairs, and launched initiatives such as the Stephen Young Entrepreneurship Awards and Global Leaders Scholarship Programme, further strengthening the university’s impact on research and education.

The University of Strathclyde, Glasgow has a number of scholarships available to international undergraduate and postgraduate students.
Available for both the pathway programmes and degree courses, scholarships can cover both tuition fees and living expenses.

Scholarships are available for the Undergraduate Foundation Programme, International Year One BBA and Pre-Masters Programme. These are limited in availability and are awarded on a first-come-first-served basis. After successful completion of a pathway programme, students can be awarded scholarships each academic year if they achieve grades of 60 percent.
International students are required to have a certain level of English language proficiency to study at the university. The University of Strathclyde accept a number of English language tests as proof of English language skill.

As well as English language proficiency, there are specific course and country-based entry requirements. International students who do not meet all of the academic requirements can study preparation programmes. These are taught on campus and have been designed to introduce students to the style of teaching at the University of Strathclyde. Once this has been successfully completed, students can advance to degree-level of study.
Teaching at Strathclyde University consists of tutorials, seminar-style classes and large group lectures. Students are expected to participate in independent study, and are also given the opportunity to receive support from a personal tutor, who can offer advice and guidance about university-related issues such as coursework and exam preparation, time management, and navigating student life.
As well as having dedicated and experienced teaching staff, the University of Strathclyde integrates practical work experience into courses. This includes internships and placement opportunities to better prepare students for life and employment after graduation.

Strathclyde’s GBP 60 million Learning & Teaching building is located at the heart of its Glasgow campus, and it contains a host of lecture theatres, fully modernised classrooms and a range of learning spaces. It is also home to cafés, food outlets, a bar and a live music venue.
The Andersonian Library is a superb learning and research facility, boasting around a million print volumes, over 700,000 electronic books and over 178,000 e-journals, as well as individual and group study spaces.
The GBP 31 million Strathclyde Sport includes a state-of-the-art gym, 25 metre swimming pool, four-court sports halls, dance studios and squash courts, and hosts a range of activities such as fitness classes and group training sessions. For outdoor activities there are football, rugby and hockey pitches.

Accommodation is self-catering, and a mixture of en-suite and shared bathroom facilities. Rooms are fully equipped with comfortable furniture and excellent internet connection. There is shared living space for students to socialise and cook together, which includes modern kitchen appliances and a TV. Each hall is only a short walk from the main university buildings, including the students’ union, sports centre, international study centre, library and the campus shops and cafes. The university is ideally situated in the bustling Glasgow city centre with a variety of bars, clubs, shops and restaurants nearby.
