About IWU

Illinois Wesleyan University-preparing passionate students to succeed and lead…

Illinois Wesleyan University (IWU) is a highly selective liberal arts university.  Founded in 1850, Illinois Wesleyan has grown to become one of the USA’s leading liberal arts institutions. The University enrolls just under 2,000 undergraduates from across the USA and around the globe.

Illinois Wesleyan is located in the central Illinois twin cities of Bloomington-Normal, a community of 130,000 located about two hours south of Chicago and north of St. Louis. Home to Illinois Wesleyan and Illinois State University, and major corporations like State Farm Insurance and Country Financial, the twin cities offer a wide range of recreational and leisure activities, as well as opportunities for internships and community service.

Illinois Wesleyan's distinctive liberal arts curriculum is at the core of its 80 majors, minors and programs. Courses of study the traditional liberal arts, programs in business, the fine arts, nursing, and eight pre-professional programs. The curriculum is enhanced by a superb faculty, enriching interdisciplinary programs, tradition of student research, wealth of study abroad options and unique 4-4-1 calendar that includes a May Term.

IWU’s students benefit from an average class size of 17 and an 11: 1 student-faculty ratio, giving them the kind of personal attention from faculty that is often missing at larger universities. Student satisfaction and success are reflected in a 90-percent first-year retention rate and the fact that 9 in 10 graduating seniors complete their degree in four years.

The University's residential campus covers 85 tree-filled acres and has 53 buildings, including 23 living options. Co-curricular programming is diverse, with 200 student organizations and groups and 22 athletic teams for men and women.

Accommodation

First-year housing is guaranteed for international students, and two years in campus housing is required.

Career Support

The IWU Hart Career Center offers students career guidance, internship facilitation, graduate school advising, and job search assistance.  A wide variety of career related events are coordinated throughout the year.

Illinois Wesleyan graduates can be found leading Fortune 500 corporations and non-profit organizations, conducting research at the Mayo Clinic, producing films in Hollywood, teaching elementary school, and pursuing careers and life in cities large and small around the world. Illinois Wesleyan graduates receive a high return on their investment
