Founded in 2015 as the Kansas City Polytechnic Institute, Metropolitan Community College (MCC) is the oldest public institution of higher education in Kansas City, Missouri. It is also the first community college established in Missouri and among the first colleges in the USA to award an associate degree. MCC offers students 125 associate degree and certificate programs from its campuses in Blue River, Longview, Maple Woods, and Penn Valley and educates about 20,000 students annually. True to community-college tradition, MCC is an open-access institution, which welcomes first-time, returning, transfer, dual-credit, part-time, and full-time students, and imparts to them the tools they need to be successful. MCC also provides opportunities for students to develop occupational skills, with faculty and administrators cooperating to create an environment that stimulates and nurtures academic freedom for students.
