About MATC

Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC) is the bridge to a better future for students…

That future is built upon a solid yet vibrant past. For more than 100 years, MATC has played a crucial role in the growth of the greater Milwaukee community.

The MATC Story

Founded in 1912, MATC has grown to become one of the Midwest USA's largest community-based technical colleges.

MATC has on offer:

  • More than 200 career-centered programs, including apprenticeships
  • Transfer agreements with four-year colleges and universities that make it easy for students to start a bachelor’s degree
  • Online, accelerated classes
  • Personal attention through small class sizes and comprehensive student services
  • Bilingual classes and programs; English as a Second Language courses
  • Credit for prior learning and experience
  • GED test services and classes to prepare students for college-level studies

Exceptional Opportunities

MATC serves more than 38,000 students a year at its four full-service campuses in downtown Milwaukee, Mequon, Oak Creek and West Allis; plus the Health Education Center at the Downtown Milwaukee Campus and the MATC Education Center at Walker’s Square. Some programs are offered entirely online.

MATC faculty members bring their on-the-job experience to the classroom. Students will be learning from instructors who are successful professionals.

MATC labs and classrooms provide engaging learning environments with the latest technologies, which are constantly updated and renovated.

MATC also offers students the opportunity to participate in college athletics, and each campus has numerous student clubs and organizations.

Empowering & Transforming Student Lives

MATC has developed many of its associate degrees, technical diplomas and certificates so that related academic programs are linked in a Career Pathway. Each program in a pathway prepares students to be job-ready, and the credits earned can be applied to completing additional credentials in the future.

MATC partners with hundreds of local employers to provide students with real-world learning opportunities through internship and clinical experiences. More in the Career Support section…

87% of MATC graduates are continuing their education at four-year colleges and universities or are employed within six months of graduation; MATC also has a 97% graduate satisfaction rate.
