Rochester Institute of Technology’s (RIT) story began with a merger between the Rochester Athenaeum, founded in 1829, and a technical training school, the Mechanics Institute, founded in 1885. RIT’s history is captivating and is a legacy of uncommon ambition. Through an intentional blending of technology, the arts, and design, the institute provides exceptional individuals with a range of academic opportunities, including a leading research program and an internationally recognized education for deaf and hard-of-hearing students.
