Established in 1874, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology (RHIT) has firmly placed itself as the best college for undergraduate engineering in the United States over its nearly 150-year history. The college offers students from around the world the chance to complete leading courses across science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) from its stunning campus in west-central Indiana.
Undergraduate students attending RHIT will join more than 2,000 other students across more than 18 different programs across STEM disciplines. Faculty at Rose-Hulman are leading experts in their fields and rank nationally for research output and teaching quality. Rose-Hulman also prides itself on being an internationally diverse institution, with students from nearly 30 countries joining students from nearly all 50 states in the U.S.
U.S. News & World Report has ranked Rose-Hulman first in the U.S. for undergraduate engineering programs since 1999. Rose-Hulman also regularly ranks nationally for the excellence of its teaching and the value it offers students.
Wall Street Journal’s Best Colleges in America guide ranked Rose-Hulman No. 17 overall in the nation.
Rose-Hulman also earned No. 1 rankings in both learning opportunities and learning facilities subcategories, with students specifically citing interactions with faculty, collaboration with other students, available campus workspaces, and satisfaction with physical classroom/teaching spaces. Rose-Hulman ranked second in the nation in the likelihood of students recommending the college to others, and fourth in career preparation.
For over 10 years, Rose-Hulman graduates have achieved a 99 percent placement rate within six months of graduating, with the average wage of a RHIT alumnus being significantly higher than the national average. Students complete their studies on the 1,300-acre Terre Haute campus where state-of-the-art facilities are nestled among woodlands and lakes.
Rose-Hulman is beginning the development of an entrepreneurial ecosystem called Innovation Grove, which will feature the relocation of Rose-Hulman Ventures and the addition of other new amenities to provide students with additional internships and hands-on experiences to gain the skills needed to thrive in a rapidly changing world.
In 2024, Rose-Hulman announced a NanoEngineering program for undergraduate students. at Rose-Hulman. It offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to provide students with a strong foundation in fundamental engineering principles, coupled with a deep focus on nanoscale science and technology, including essential modelling and simulation techniques. Students will engage in hands-on research projects, collaborate with leading experts in the field, and have access to state-of-the-art laboratories such as the Micro-Nanoscale Device and Systems (MiNDS) lab equipped with cutting-edge nanofabrication and characterization tools.
Rose-Hulman’s Engineering Design program received ABET accreditation in 2023. Earning accreditation is a significant achievement because Rose-Hulman’s Engineering Design program offers a unique degree in undergraduate STEM education not found at most institutions.
Since 2018, the Engineering Design program at Rose-Hulman has been providing students with the skills to understand the depth and breadth of the design process while mastering the technical tools and professional skills to improve the world. Students tackle design challenges for real-world clients through six different design studios, from the first quarter through junior year on campus. The third year features four professional work experiences that could be structured to allow for an international experience, if desired.
