Santa Barbara City College (SBCC) was established in 1909, and is one of the oldest community colleges in the state of California. Discontinued shortly after World War I, with its work largely taken over by the Santa Barbara State Normal School, SBCC was reorganized in the fall of 1946, with the Santa Barbara Board of Education formally changing the name of the institution from Santa Barbara Junior College to Santa Barbara City College in 1959. Following the name change, SBCC moved to its present and permanent location on the Santa Barbara Mesa, former site of the University of California at Santa Barbara. The beautiful 74-acre campus of Santa Barbara City College, situated on a bluff, overlooks the harbor and Pacific Ocean, and offers stunning views of both.
