Overview

Formed in 1889, Slippery Rock University (SRU) is part of Pennsylvania’s State University System. Although it was originally focused on the training of teachers, the institution was granted university status in 1983 and has not looked back since. It now offers over 150 different undergraduate majors, and is home to more than 8,500 students from a variety of countries.

The campus is based in a safe and welcoming community in picturesque West Pennsylvania. It features state-of-the-art learning facilities, including the Bailey Library, which holds a huge digital database of materials and a dedicated team of staff to help students.

A 24:1 student to faculty ratio provides students with lots of opportunity for one-to-one tuition and individualised attention, giving them the best chance of learning everything they can from the industry-standard professionals that work at SRU.

SRU takes great pride in its sports teams, which play at the second highest level of American university sport in the NCAA Division 2. Stadiums for the soccer, baseball and American football teams all have the capacity to hold thousands of spectators. There are also a variety of facilities for training too, including a weight training centre underneath the 10,000-capacity football stadium.

From apartment blocks to halls of residence, there is also a number of accommodation options for students. The campus also holds a counselling centre, a 24-hour health service and a Student Government Association that helps to represent the student body throughout their time at university.

With more than 160 clubs and organisations for students to join, there is plenty of ways to get involved in the university spirit. There is also lots of arts performances throughout the year, an on-campus climbing wall and lots of intramural sports on offer at SRU.
