The health and safety of students, faculty and staff is a top priority at the University of Delaware. With the advent of the coronavirus pandemic the university is aware that there may be alterations and adjustments required for the start of the fall semester. While it is the intention of the institution to welcome students on campus for the new academic year in 2020, this must be carefully evaluated in line with state government and public health authority guidance and law. UD aims to ensure that there is as little disruption to learning as possible with plans in place for online learning. The University of Delaware’s Science, Technology and Advanced Research campus is currently being expanded to include a ten-story tower with labs and classroom space. This will serve as an addition to the recently added health and research facilities.
To accommodate students with TOEFL scores from 79-89, UD has created the International Foundation Semester. Students with scores in this range are admitted and the International Foundation Semester is a semester-long program to improve student’s English proficiency.
UD also runs the pathway program, Academic Transitions, through the English Language Institute (ELI). This program allows high-achieving international students to prepare for undergraduate study. During the program they will improve their academic English and earn up to 27 university credits.
The University of Delaware is also home to athletics of all sorts, including 21 NCAA Division I teams. UD’s teams are known as the Blue Hens. The university recently finished a renovation project to improve its athletic facilities, including the Delaware Stadium and the Whitney Athletic Center.

There are pathways for those who cannot meet the English language requirements. These are provided by the English Language Institute (ELI) and are available for undergraduate and graduate students.
Prospective master’s and doctorate students who are academically qualified for admission but do not meet the UD program’s minimum TOEFL or IELTS score may be admitted to the university through its Conditional Admissions Program (CAP). These students begin their studies at the English Language Institute (ELI). Once they prove their English skill proficiency in academic reading, writing and presenting, the students begin their graduate coursework at UD. Almost every first-year student lives in the University of Delaware’s campus housing. Research has shown that those who live on campus perform better academically and enjoy more community activities.
Residence halls on UD’s campus meet the different needs of students. Options include single or double rooms, suites and apartments. The university hosts many events to support the educational and social environment for all those who live in residence halls.
On campus, the facilities available for UD students are extensive and diverse. Dining options include numerous restaurants and cafes, catering to a range of dietary requirements and preferences.
