The University of Missouri (MU) was the first public university to be established west of the Mississippi river. Founded in 1839, the university, also called Mizzou, now welcomes over 30,000 students coming from all 50 U.S. states and from over 100 different countries around the world. Mizzou’s academic prowess and standing is exemplified by its membership of the prestigious Association of American Universities (AAU), an invitation first received back in 1908.
Mizzou consists of 13 schools and colleges through which it offers more than 300 programs. The university’s accomplished faculty attracts about 70 percent of the state’s revenue for research in public universities. MU’s faculty spends around USD 205 million each year on scientific research, and it is considered a top university in the country for undergraduate student participation in research.
The main campus is set on 1,262 acres, the university has several buildings on campus known for their historic significance. In order to mitigate the spread of Covid-19, The University of Missouri has decided to finish the 2020 Fall semester remotely, to help keep its students and staff as safe as possible.
The Show Me Renewal plan is a comprehensive response program, incorporating an online information hub and campus safety guidelines, which has been developed by the university team for the safe and sustained renewal of on-campus activities.
The plan includes a hybrid learning model, developed in response to the challenges of the pandemic, offering a mix of face-to-face and online classes. This instructional video explains the new guidelines and gives an idea of how teaching and learning currently takes place on campus with safety measures in place.
After the Thanksgiving break, the university will return in the Spring 2021 semester offering classes with this hybrid model in a similar manner to the start of the 2020 Fall semester. The online hub contains the most up to date information given by the university, and lists important contact information for those affected.
The University of Missouri has identified the current and future need for more highly trained nursing professionals, due to the United States’ ageing population and the repercussions of the coronavirus pandemic. According to the American Nurses Association, there will be more registered nursing jobs available in 2022 than any other profession in the country. To help meet the shortage, and to strengthen its teaching department, the University of Missouri has started work on the new Sinclair School of Nursing facility, which is expected to be completed by spring 2022.
The new USD 30 million facility will cover over 64,000 square-feet and will be funded by donations from the university’s generous network of sponsors and professional partners.

Available to some non-U.S. and non-Missouri residents who are enrolled at the university for their first semester after secondary school graduation. To be eligible, students must have a combined SAT score of 1260 or higher, or an ACT composite score of 27 or higher. Successful applicants receive a yearly USD 5,000 award that can be renewed for up to four years.
