What will I learn?

This is a conversion course that provides a pathway for graduate mechanical engineers to join the lucrative careers of professional marine engineers. The aim of this course is to train engineers holding the Degree in Mechanical Engineering in accordance with the Reg. III/1 of STCW 1978 Convention, as amended in 1995, leading to the Class 5 Marine Engineer Officer Certificate of Competency (for watch-keeping engineering officer on board sea-going merchant vessels), issued by the Maritime and Port Authority (MPA) of Singapore. It trains a graduate mechanical engineer to become a competent shipboard marine engineer. He would start as a shipboard junior engineer and could become a chief engineer of a sea-going merchant ship within a short span of 4 to 5 years. They could also be employed ashore as a Marine Technical Superintendent, Marine Surveyor or Senior Manager in the diversified international maritime sector.

Entry requirements

For international students

Students must have degree in Mechanical Engineering, MPA Letter of Eligibility (for attending the 22 Weeks GME Course), and must be medically fit as per the MPA Marine Engineering Officers (MEO) medical fitness guidelines.
