Federation University is all set to make work placements a reality and prepare all students for future employment through its cooperative education model. Based on extensive research and consultation with industry, co-op education will accelerate students’ careers, placing them at the heart of education and industry.
Through co-op, students won’t just finish their course with theoretical knowledge – they’ll have first-hand industry experience and feel confident to transition from study to employment.
Federation University is raring to collaborate with existing and new industry partners and employers. The university aims to develop flexible cooperative learning opportunities and meet the needs of businesses and students.
Students will have 60 days of paid work experience as part of their course and flexible options to complete their placement – either full-time over one semester or part-time over an extended period. Students will also receive hands-on experience, credit and opportunities to build their professional networks. Since co-op is part of the degree and not an additional commitment, students can keep working part-time jobs even when on paid placements without impacting their working hours and visa conditions.
The university’s co-op courses include Business, Accounting, Engineering, Information Technology and Science, with many more on the way. Between now and the end of 2025, Federation University aims to embed co-op across its range of courses.

Federation University understands that being a student in a foreign country can be financially challenging. The scholarships and grants aim to alleviate students' financial burden, allowing them to focus on their studies and university experience. Scholarships on offer for international students include the following:
Prospective international students who accept an offer to commence in Semester 1, 2025 and pay the deposit as listed on their offer by 27 December will receive a $3,000 tuition fee discount in their second year of study.
This award is equivalent to 20 per cent of the annual tuition fees of a pathway course. It's available to prospective international students commencing a pathway course, such as a Higher Education Diploma, in 2025.
High-achieving international student in the top 25 per cent of offer holders in their region will receive a 20 per cent tuition fee scholarship when they apply for a course at Federation University. To maintain the scholarship, a GPA of at least 5 must be maintained while studying.
New international students joining the FedLiving community at our Berwick, Mt Helen or Gippsland campuses may be eligible for up to $1,000 per semester (for a maximum of two semesters).
International students undertaking required placements in a non-Co-op course (e.g. nursing, social work, teaching) receive a minimum payment for the placement hours required in their course – up to $10,000 for undergraduates and $5,000 for postgraduates. These payments will be distributed in instalments throughout their study.
