Unlike a typical university course, Macleay College offers a hands-on teaching experience, with a focus on practical work involving projects and work briefs mirroring the workplace. Students also work on real briefs with industry clients, and everyone undertakes an internship as part of their course.

Throughout their time at the institution, support is available for students to help ensure their time there is as stress-free as possible. This includes a confidential counselling service on both campuses, which is free of charge. There is also academic support in the form of free workshops in areas such as essay writing and study tips.

Students only attend class three days a week, making it possible for them to have the flexibility to study or work during the rest of the time. While they are in college, students are encouraged to get involved in activities after class, which range from pizza and movie nights to barbeques. Both campuses also have student zones and cafes, as well as a well-stocked library and Mac and PC labs are also available.
