The University of Wollongong’s South Western Sydney campus at Liverpool is where the best and brightest students can earn an internationally recognised degree. This campus is the first major university campus in Liverpool and builds on an already thriving relationship between UOW and the Great South West.
Opened in February 2017, the new campus occupies three floors in the Liverpool City Council’s Moore Street building. Students studying at UOW’s South Western Sydney campus can choose from a variety of bachelor and master’s degrees in business, commerce, computer science, information technology, international studies, law, nursing, and social work. UOW College also offers university entry pathways, recognised English Language courses and vocational training programmes.
Many UOW students undertake placements and internships at partner organisations in the Great South West region, including around 330 nursing students undertaking placements in local hospitals, mental health facilities and aged care facilities.

The university was recognised among the world’s best institutions for teaching excellence, receiving a Spotlight Award in the 2018 Global Teaching Excellence Awards.
UOW was the only Australian university to be listed as a finalist for the prestigious Global Teaching Excellence Award (GTEA) for two consecutive years, placing it among the top institutions in the world for the quality of its teaching.
UOW ensures that its classroom practices deliver high-quality, student-centred learning. All UOW coursework programmes are technology enriched, intellectually challenging, research or enquiry based, and real-world focussed.
The University of Wollongong is a comprehensive teaching and research university with five faculties:
Each faculty is made up of a number of schools that focus on one or more specific disciplines. With more than 365 degrees on offer, students have a choice of courses in the humanities, social sciences, and STEM fields.
UOW research is structured around a number of key research entities, research strengths, externally funded centres, and faculty research units.
UOW recognises secondary qualifications from more than 40 countries and education systems and can assess students who have completed the equivalent of Australian high school (Year 12) for direct entry to the first year of a bachelor’s degree.
If students do not meet the entry requirements for direct entry to their chosen bachelor’s programme, they may receive an offer to study a pathway programme at UOW College that can guarantee entry into a range of UOW undergraduate degrees, at first or second year level.
Students who have completed a diploma, or partially completed a bachelor’s degree, may apply directly for admission with credit transfer.
All students are required to provide evidence of satisfying English language requirements. Results in major international tests are accepted, including IELTS and TOEFL. Students can also meet the language requirement by completing an English course at UOW College.
Wollongong enjoys a very reasonable cost of living, meaning you can focus your efforts on your study, and not be worried about your finances. The lower cost of living in Wollongong is a major advantage of being located outside of a capital city like Sydney or Melbourne. The prices of rent, food and entertainment in Wollongong compare very favourably with big-city options, meaning that you can make the most of your study in Australia.
UOW offers a range of scholarships and country bursaries that help with the costs of study. These offer a tuition fee reduction of up to 30 per cent. Students will be automatically considered for a scholarship or country bursary when they submit their application.
UOW student Anne Fernando moved from Sri Lanka to UOW in 2015 to study Mathematics and Finance. Anne received an international student scholarship as well as one from her faculty, in the form of a fee reduction. “I was tossing up between a university in Melbourne, Brisbane and Wollongong, but the Wollongong course fees were a lot more affordable. On top of my scholarships I also received the Dean’s Scholar award, which means I get a text book allowance every year.”
While the free local shuttle buses will get students to Wollongong city or the beach in less than ten minutes, the campus has seven coffee shops, more than 15 food outlets, a bar, supermarket, hairdresser, travel agent, post office, three banks, health clinic, dentist, physio, sports fields, gym and a swimming pool.
