What will I learn?

The future of work is changing, and what it means to be part of the legal profession has expanded. Our highly regarded Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws combined degree program will challenge you to think differently. You will graduate with two degrees, opening the door to a wide range of career opportunities – in law or another area where legal skills are in demand. Today’s law graduates need to be equipped with an agile mindset, and the ability to draw on legal and non-legal insights to solve multi-faceted problems, amidst unprecedented change, shifting client expectations and rapid technological advancements. The Bachelor of Laws (LLB) is one of the most reputable law programs in Australia, highly regarded overseas and your first step towards admissions as a legal practitioner in NSW. Focused on the modern legal environment, you will develop the complex problem solving and analytical skills required to meet the challenges of a contemporary global landscape. The Bachelor of Arts (BA) offers broad choice across more than 45 subject areas, allowing you to build a solid foundation in another area(s), and gain a unique perspective. You study the BA over three years and complete the equivalent of the first year of the LLB at the same time. In years four and five, you will take the remaining compulsory and elective units of the LLB respectively. If you wish to complete honours, you may do so in your fourth year of study, deferring your remaining law units until your fifth year of study.Study one of the oldest languages and cultures at Australia’s largest department of Modern Greek and Byzantine Studies. Select from a range of language and culture units, benefit from an intensive in-country program and prepare for employment in education, translation and interpreting, media, government and the private sector. You can choose to enrol in either language-based units of study or units of pure cultural content, or select from these the most pertinent to achieve your own preferred major. The structure of this major offers the opportunity to complete a series of units that form a coherent and cohesive strand of learning: you can complete all units offered towards a specialisation in language teaching or enrol in units with emphasis on culture, history and civilisation. Bridging units, dedicated to translation, sociolinguistics or related methodological issues, will also allow you to create your own specific pathway according to the units from other programs or departments. The structure of the Modern Greek major is flexible and adjustable so that you can choose the units you want to study and incorporate them within the context of what is offered in other majors. Students will follow the appropriate pathway specified in the unit of study tables, based on their individual language level. Students completing any of the pathways for a major will be awarded a major in Modern Greek Studies.
