What will I learn?

Screen Studies explores the rich history of moving pictures and their transformation into today's rapidly changing screen cultures- from silent films to streaming services. The Screen Studies major focuses on how screens mediate our understanding of the world past and present, and provides students with the tools to analyse how screens of all types shape our daily lives. It prompts students to examine how screen media create meaning, and to explore transnational understandings of cinematic, televisual and new media productions. This will include analysis of how the relationships between cultural, gendered, linguistic and national identities in the context of globalisation influence the audience's understanding of what they see on screens.Learning Outcomesevaluate and compare diverse historical, textual and critical approaches to cinematic, televisual and new media textsanalyse screen texts across a range of genres and frameworksapply research skills and methods relevant to the study of screen cultures in national and transnational contexts andarticulate knowledge and understanding of the social and cultural contexts in which screen texts are produced.
