What will I learn?

The Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies (IMAS) is an internationally recognised centre of excellence at the University of Tasmania. Strategically located at the gateway to the Southern Ocean and Antarctica, our research spans key themes: Fisheries and aquaculture, Ecology and biodiversity and, Oceans and cryosphere. With collaborative partners across the globe, we deliver our research to users across governments, industries, institutions and communities. Based on IMAS's activities, the University of Tasmania was ranked fourth globally for Marine and Freshwater Biology and seventh globally for both Fisheries and Oceanography in the 2017 CWUR world university rankings by subject.This is a four-year course with embedded Honours. Students articulating from OUC will join the course in Year 3 at the University of Tasmania. The initial specialisation to be offered is Physical Oceanography. It will provide students with training in advanced physical oceanography and mathematics, as well as training in scientific research principles and techniques such that graduates have the capacity to conduct physical oceanography research appropriately and with a reasonable degree of autonomy.

Entry requirements

For international students

This degree program is available to students who have completed years 1 and 2 in the Bachelor Science (Marine Science) degree at the Ocean University of China. These students will complete years 3 and 4 requirements as described in the “Course Structure” section above.
