What will I learn?

The Bachelor of Midwifery prepares students for entry into professional midwifery practice, equipping them with the skills and knowledge needed to provide high-quality, woman-centred care. The program is designed to support safe and effective midwifery practice in alignment with the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council (ANMAC) standards.Key areas of study include anatomy and physiology, midwifery theory and practice, primary healthcare, perinatal mental health, and care during preconception, pregnancy, labour and birth, and early parenting.Graduates will be prepared to work collaboratively in multi-disciplinary teams and in partnership with women, supporting improved health outcomes for both mother and baby.Upon successful completion of the degree, graduates will be eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and can practice as Registered Midwives in a variety of healthcare settings.Important information for prospective students:Admission requirements, including English language proficiencyPlacement requirements in health practice settingsInherent requirements: the essential abilities needed to complete the degreeEligibility for registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA)

To be eligible for entry into this course, applicants must: meet the Universitys standard minimum admission requirements for undergraduate courses, including:for High School Students, completed secondary education.for non-school leavers: previous secondary, tertiary or TAFE studies SCU College studies work experiencepersonal competency statements special tertiary admissions test (STAT)SCU Elite Athletes and Performers Scheme demonstrate a suitable degree of life experience, including self-awareness, a capacity to relate to others and an understanding of ethical behaviour which are assessed through:two confidential references addressing the applicants suitability for the course; and the applicants responses to the SCU Counselling Readiness Questionnaire.Applicants will not be admitted solely on the basis of completion of a Certificate III qualification.
