What will I learn?

Chemistry is the study of many different things around us, including how one substance changes into another and the relationship between the nature and structure of molecules. It plays a key role in studying things like how to obtain metals from ores, convert oil into plastics and develop cures for cancer. In taking a chemistry major, you will come to understand the impact that it has on the world around us, including dyes, paints, medicines, silicon chips, artificial hips, synthetic fibres for clothing, energy storage, optical fibres and rubber tyres. You will also have the opportunity to participate in the optional 'Year in Industry' program where you'll spend one year during your course working in the chemical industry (at commercial rates of pay). The Bachelor of Science and Master of Nutrition and Dietetics is a double degree that will provide you with solid knowledge of nutritional sciences and the expertise to pursue a career as a dietitian in a range of professional settings. You will complete degree core and junior elective units, an embedded Nutrition and Dietetics program including a major in Nutrition Science, and a minor or second major from either the disciplinary pool or the shared pool. Additionally, you will complete any elective units as needed to make up the required credit points for the course. After successful completion of the Bachelor of Science (minimum credit average), you will progress to the Master of Nutrition and Dietetics wherein you will complete a prescribed course of study comprising core units in nutrition and dietetics, a training placement and a research project.
