What will I learn?

The study of history provides a window to the world, helping us understand and interpret the societies and cultures, the people, and events of the past. Students of the history major begin their studies at Medieval era, after the fall of the Western Roman Empire in 476 AD. With a major in history at the University of Newcastle, you will expand your historical horizons through courses ranging from the medieval period through to contemporary times. Some courses in a history major survey the histories of nations or regions (Australia, Europe, Britain, the Asia Pacific, and the United States) in others you’ll examine specific historical themes or events, including the Arab-Israeli conflict, the Vietnam War, women's history, and film and history.
