What will I learn?

The Graduate Certificate in Brain and Mind Sciences provides focused education and training for the next generation of science, medical, nursing, psychiatry and psychology workforces, preparing them to meet the needs of those suffering from disorders of the brain and mind.This course is for students from a range of backgrounds, including non-medical graduates, graduate scientists, general practitioners and nurses who regularly have to care for patients with mental illnesses.The core units of study will provide you with an understanding of the link between basic neuroscience and clinical applications and interventions. Elective units of study will provide you with a high standard of specialised training in your chosen area with learning of current research methodologies, access to cutting-edge scientific research equipment and supervision by high profile researchers.The Brain and Mind Centre also has leading preclinical laboratories working on the genetics of neurodevelopment and the etiology of Alzheimer’s Disease and brain tumors, and a strong drive toward translational technologies such as neuroimaging and stem regenerative medicine.

Entry requirements

For international students

A successful applicant for admission to this course will hold:

a Bachelor of Dentistry, Doctor of Dental Medicine or Bachelor of Dental Surgery from the University of Sydney or equivalent institution;

Or an equivalent qualification that is recognised by the Australian Dental Board (Limited Registration for postgraduate training/supervised practice) and with a curriculum acceptable to the school.

Experience and registration

In addition to these criteria, admission to this course requires:

at least two years general dental practice; completion of the primary Fellowship Examination of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons or its equivalent is desirable

all applicants must be registered with the Australian Dental Board for practice (limited registration for international candidates) prior to admission to the program.
