What will I learn?

This program offers a strong technical education in human visual perception, methods for quantifying light, lighting technologies and sustainability. Using biology and physics, the coursework gives you a deep appreciation of the ways that light shapes the human experience of the built environment. This professional program is open to students from diverse backgrounds including architecture, engineering, computer science, interior design and psychology. It is ideal for graduates of the Bachelor of Architecture and Environments.Throughout this course, you will learn how architectural lighting design shapes the visual environment experienced by building occupants. By specifying light sources and control systems, determining their spatial arrangement, and considering the interaction between light and materials, you will discover how to influence the function and aesthetics of architectural spaces. You will have the opportunity to extend your coursework-based learning with a research project, and benefit from a diverse offering of electives. This program can be taken with a secondary stream in combination with another Architectural Science Program. Please see the Handbook for enrolment advice for secondary stream structure and apply through the specific double specialisation course page. All Illumination Design core units are taught in block mode intensives over several full days rather than weekly lectures.
