Our Data and Information Security specialisation provides theoretical, design and practical skills that are required to appropriately collect, process, and manage data in both regulatory and technical perspectives.It also emphasises corporate governance, organisational structures, risk assessment and control structures for data and information security.With unprecedented abilities and opportunities to collect personal and/or commercially sensitive data, information security has become essential aspect of cybersecurity.While regulatory authorities are introducing new information privacy and security regulations and guidelines, the general public is also becoming aware of the value of protecting their digital data.You will gain the expertise to become a leader in a fast-growing area with significant national importance. Acquire an expert-level understanding of leading attack and defence techniques, assess networked systems’ security, and apply cybersecurity strategies at the organisational level.Our Master of Cybersecurity is designed for professionals wanting to become leaders and technical experts within the field of cybersecurity, an industry projected to require 17,000 additional professionals in cybersecurity positions in the next five years.Graduates of our Master of Cybersecurity will be specialised in designing, developing, assessing and maintaining cybersecurity products and solutions.You will possess the necessary skills to be ahead of the curve in an industry projected to almost triple in size within the next five years1 and requiring 17,000 additional professionals in cybersecurity positions2.You will also have a mastery of knowledge in fundamental cybersecurity concepts and future directions of cybersecurity, analytical and technical skills to detect and assess cybersecurity threats, knowledge on privacy and security policies and regulations, and the ability to communicate findings to specialist and non-specialist audiences.

Entry requirements

For international students

To be eligible for admission, an applicant is required to have:a three year Australian bachelor's degree in a cognate discipline that demonstrates a background in computer programming and statistics with a minimum credit average (65 percent), orthe University of Sydney Graduate Diploma in Data Science with a minimum credit average (65 percent), or a qualification deemed to be equivalent; orcompleted 24 credit points of the University of Sydney Graduate Diploma in Data Science or Graduate Certificate in Data Science with a minimum credit average (65 percent). The 24 credit points must include 12 credit points of Data Science Core units and 12 credit points of Data Science specialist elective units.
