Master of Medicine in Ophthalmic Science

This course develops core knowledge and understanding of basic ophthalmic science, which focuses on preventing blindness, promoting eye health, and rehabilitating those with a visual disability. You will gain practical diagnostic and prognostic, management and surgical skills.The Master in Medicine (Ophthalmic Science) is primarily for medical graduates who are interested in a career in related fields.You will learn: core knowledge and understanding of the basic ophthalmic sciencestheoretical and practical aspects of ophthalmic anatomy, physiology and opticspractical applications of ophthalmic equipment, anatomical specimens, prosections, radiographs and electronmicrographs and the ability to apply psychometric testing to obtain reliable and repeatable data.You will complete 48 credit points consisting of:5 core units of study Practical Ophthalmic Science – a two-week block/intensive mode unit to be taken at the Save Sight Institute in Sydney or at the University of Otago in Dunedin, New ZealandCapstone experience – research project of 10,000 - 12,000 words under the guidance of a supervisor.
