What will I learn?

If you want to become a Professional Mechanical Engineer, and have a 3-year engineering degree but no work experience, the Master of Professional Engineering (Mechanical Engineering) will get you there. Throughout the degree there is an emphasis on practical experience with hands-on laboratory sessions and 60 days industry experience, preparing you thoroughly for the engineering profession. Study advanced principles of dynamics, renewable energy technology, fibre-reinforced composites, system design and fluid mechanics. You will complete a research project and dissertation applying all your formal knowledge to a real world problem. Whether this is the efficiency of different bio-fuels, obstacle detecting robotics or the design of FSAE race cars, your project will provide insight to the profession of a Mechanical Engineer.With the highly practical knowledge and skills you gained in the design, development and maintenance of machinery and systems, there will a wide range of career opportunities available to you including mining, transportation, manufacturing, air-conditioning and ventilation. You will often collaborate with other engineers and professionals on projects and there are great opportunities for travel with consulting and contracting engineers often moving from one major project to another.

Entry requirements

For international students

  • Australian university three or four-year Bachelor degree in engineering in the relevant specialisation, or equivalent. Or
  • Australian university four-year Bachelor degree in engineering in a non-related specialisation, or equivalent.

To be eligible for advanced standing entry:

  • Completion of an Australian university four-year embedded honours degree in engineering in the same or closely related cognate specialisation (major).
