Learning the French language provides a wealth of opportunities for your future career and ignites a passion for culture, creativity, and expression. The Department of French welcomes students who wish to learn and perfect the language as well as pursue their studies in literature and linguistics. They offer a range of courses in French Canadian literature, cinema, and culture, with an emphasis on Acadian and Quebecois writers, as well as other Francophone literatures (i.e. France, Belgium, etc.). Their linguistics courses explore the various expressions across French Canada. We also emphasize the phenomenon of human communication and how language shapes experience.

Entry requirements

For international students

Students must have completed a recognized secondary (high school) credential in your country. International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) - English Language, English First Language, English Literature (other literature-based language courses will be considered) 4 electives from group 1. 1 elective from group 1, 2 or 3. Overall average of C or higher in the subjects above required for most programs. International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (IBDP) - English A: Language & Literature (other languages will be considered). 4 electives from group 1 1 elective from group 1, 2 or 3. Overall average of 3 or higher required for most programs.
