One of the first programs of its kind in Canada, Media Arts & Cultures (MAAC) at UNB has offered students a dynamic mix of critical media studies and hands-on creative coursework since 1996. As a MAAC major, you will learn about media by making media. You will consider, critique, and engage intellectually with media, but you will also learn the tools and techniques used today to create media content.MAAC combines elements of the liberal arts and fine arts – critical thinking and creative expression. Like all Arts majors, you will write research papers and give presentations, but you will also make videos, media remixes, animations, blogs, and video games.Hands-on learningMedia Arts & Cultures emphasizes experiential learning throughout the program. You will combine courses in the history and language of film with courses in film production. A course in game studies that examines philosophical reflections on play and games in western culture can be paired with another on contemporary videogame design.
