Canada

What will I learn?

The study of politics explores a wide range of topics central to our lives as individuals and citizens. Political studies looks at political issues, ideas, institutions, and processes. Topics include the distribution of power, democracy, freedom, equality, representation, and more. We strive to create interesting discussions about both the pressing issues of the day, and the timeless questions of politics. The discipline is designed to build thinking, research, and communication skills in students as they progress through their years of study. Classes have a strong research focus and provide many opportunities for students to pursue their own interests.

Entry requirements

For international students

All undergraduate applicants, regardless of citizenship status, are required to fulfill language proficiency requirements. The University of Alberta language proficiency policies exist to ensure students have the requisite skills to succeed in the university learning environment. Fulfillment of the listed requirements does not guarantee admission. The University of Alberta reserves the right to use discretion in determining language proficiency. In some cases, additional English language testing, conducted by the Faculty of Extension, may be required. English is the primary language of instruction and communication for all programs at the University of Alberta (excluding our French-language Campus Saint-Jean). All undergraduate applicants to English-speaking and bilingual programs need an adequate level of English Language Proficiency prior to admission regardless of citizenship status or country of origin.

*There may be different IELTS requirements depending on your chosen course.
