What will I learn?

Computer Engineering is a field of engineering that focuses on the design and organization of computer systems. Graduates in Computer Engineering are able to apply mathematical, scientific and engineering principles to design and integrate computer systems suitable for applications in a wide range of fields. The program provides students with a common base of knowledge essential to computer engineering and then allows them to select from a menu of electives to attain a degree of specialization in one of four areas or to choose electives to broaden their knowledge base. Elective concentrations are available in areas of Electronic Design automation, Software Design, Artificial Intelligence and Robotics, and Microsystems.

Find your place in the combined fields of computer science and electrical engineering: Computer Engineering. Study and apply algorithmic, electronic and digital design principles to the design, construction, implementation and maintenance of software and hardware components of modern computing systems. In third and fourth year, specialize in one or more streams to customize your career opportunities: electronic design automation, artificial intelligence (AI), embedded systems, and software.

Co-Op: To be eligible to continue in the Co-op program, students must meet a minimum 70% cumulative average requirement after second semester, as well as meet all work term requirements. Please refer to the Co-operative Education program policy with respect to work term performance grading, work term report grading and program completion requirements.

For students from United States

The secondary school graduation certificate which would admit a student to an internationally recognized university in his or her home country is normally acceptable for admission to the University of Guelph. English Proficiency Requirements: International English Language Testing System (IELTS) - Minimum overall score of 6.5 with no band less than 6, Canadian Academic English Language Assessment (CAEL) - Minimum overall band score of 70, Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) Internet-based: minimum total score of 89 with no individual scaled score less than 21, Pearson Test of English (PTE) - Minimum score of 60 and no score less than 60 for any individual component, Cambridge English: C1 Advanced and C2 Proficiency - Minimum overall score of 176 with no band less than 169.

For international students

Advanced Level of the English Language Certificate Program - Successful completion of the University of Guelph, Open Learning Advanced Level of the English Language Certificate Program (Levels 9 and 10).
