Founded on the principles of diversity and inclusion, the Music (BFA BA) program is unique in recognizing students with musical talent and ambition who arrive with a wide variety of musical backgrounds. The Music (BFA BA) program builds on these experiences by providing a common foundation through four core courses in the first two years. Students then specialize further during their final two years and can explore the full range of options available to them. Regardless of specialization, students will develop skills in various musical practices and cultural forms. Students in the Music (BFA BA) program can specialize or generalize according to their interests after a diverse foundational first- and second-year common practice.From its earlier digital music labs, the Department of Music has expanded this area to address increasing interest in digital audio workstations, digital composition, and hybrid performance that includes both acoustic and computer-based instruments in real and virtual contexts. This area intersects with composition and contemporary improvisation, and with the Department of Computational Arts in AMPD.
