What will I learn?

Studying earth sciences at Dalhousie starts with learning the basics. Youll explore how geological structures were formed and how changes are happening deep within the geosphere- the solid part of the Earth.In weekly labs youll experience geological research and learn how to identify different types of rock by examining samples under high-powered microscopes. In addition to the geosciences youll also learn about the atmosphere hydrosphere our oceans and the biosphere.Field work is also an important part of Dalhousies earth sciences program. Youll get a chance to explore the fascinating and diverse geology of Nova Scotia. Our experiential learning opportunities will set you up for career success. You could take part in our Advanced Field School and study abroad in countries such as Italy Chile or England. The upper-level Petroleum Field Program course might take you to Trinidad to study active petroleum systems. Students are also encouraged to participate in our co-op education program.
