What will I learn?

Theoretical physics is a more mathematically-oriented approach to physics that develops mathematical skills in studying topics like black holes, the internal structure of protons and neutrons, and high-temperature superconductivity.Theoretical Physics students graduate with exceptional laboratory experience and a high rate of student award reception and authoringco-authoring papers in respected physics research journals.Graduates from the University of Guelph Theoretical Physics program have honed mathematical skillsets to prepare them for traditional careers in physics or embark on careers requiring strong mathematics foundations, in industry, government, and academia.Here are just a few careers our graduates have successfully pursued: Cosmologist, Financial modelling consultant, Quantum computer researcher, Stock Market Analyst, Risk Analyst, IT Consultant, Financial Modelling Consultant, Quantum Computer Researcher

Entry requirements

For international students

The secondary school graduation certificate which would admit a student to an internationally recognized university in their home country is normally acceptable for admission to the University of Guelph.Students presenting predicted, interim or midterm grade 12/senior level results may be considered for a conditional offer of admission if all prerequisite courses are completed or in progress and meeting the minimum grade requirements. International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma with 6 subjects: 3 Higher Level and 3 Standard Level with a minimum score of 28. Bonus marks from TOK and EE will be taken into consideration. Prerequisites for the major must be taken at the IB DP2 level.Note: For programs with Advanced Math, students must present one of: SL/HL Analysis & Approaches, or HL Applications & Interpretations. Math Studies/Standard Level Applications and Interpretations are not an acceptable prerequisite for programs that require Advanced Math or Calculus.
