What will I learn?

Research into computer games involves both real-time programs for strategic game-playing (such as classic board and card games) as well as programs to meet the needs of the commercial games industry (including working with industrial partners such as BioWare and Inflexion). Although our passion is to demonstrate new technologies in game-playing programs, the research is more general and has found applications in areas as diverse as robotics, civil engineering, and bioinformatics. We offer courses and research opportunities in several disciplines, including Artificial Intelligence, Database Systems, Computer Games, Machine Learning, Robotics, Software Engineering, Artificial Man-Machine Interfaces, Bioinformatics, Communication Networks, Algorithmics, Computer Graphics, Computer Vision, Software Systems, Human Computer Interaction, Internetworking, and Multimedia.

Entry requirements

For international students

Applicants for the Ph.D. in Computing Science must have an M.Sc. degree in Computing Science or a related field. Deficiencies must be addressed by taking appropriate undergraduate courses. A 3.0 GPA is typically the minimum GPA for acceptance in an MSc or PhD program. However, we may consider slightly lower GPAs in exceptional circumstances or due to small discrepancies in international GPA conversion rates. Meeting the 3.0 GPA minimum requirement does not guarantee admission. Our department admissions process is highly competitive and the Admissions Committee often selects students with a 3.5 GPA or higher.

*There may be different IELTS requirements depending on your chosen course.
