What will I learn?

The Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology serves as an academic Centre of Excellence in Medical Laboratory Sciences, Pathology, Environmental Health Sciences and Toxicology through excellence in education, research, and clinical service delivery in partnership with Alberta Precision Laboratories. The Department is made up of seven divisions and numerous specialty training programs. Our thesis-based master's and PhD programs offer students a multidisciplinary research environment that promotes creativity and leads to academic excellence. Often this takes form in collaborative thesis research between our innovative basic and clinical research faculty, thus creating opportunities for world class research that cannot be established elsewhere.

Entry requirements

For international students

For students entering the PhD program after a BSc degree, of 12 graded graduate level courses is required. For students entering the PhD program after a MSc degree, of 6 of graded graduate level courses is required. Students must maintain a cumulative program GPA of at least 3.0 on the 4-point scale from the University of Alberta, or an equivalent qualification and standing from a recognized institution.
