Our program uses an apprenticeship model for graduate training and aims to train skilled and independent researchers who will make significant contributions to the discipline of psychology. Our program encourages early, significant, and sustained involvement in research through apprenticeship-style training, mentored by a group of vigorous world-class faculty members. Researchers in this area focus on recognition of objects and scenes, navigation, geographical reasoning, and the development of way finding skills.Memory & Language - seeks to understand how people remember life events and places. Language, as used in literary discourse and colloquially, is examined in relation to memory and learning.Spatial Decision-Support Systems - this area of applied cognition develops tools and systems which will aid in search and rescue operations and assist travellers in new environments.Concepts & Categorization - concepts embody much of what we know about the world and allow us to understand and respond to situations and objects. Research on concepts and categorization examines how concepts are learned, represented, and used.
