Governments provide essential services, such as health care and education. They collect taxes to pay for their operations. They also seek to regulate human behaviour, for example, to promote competition among firms. This program draws on economic analysis and various disciplines to give you a better understanding of the challenges involved in developing good public policy and why governments sometimes fail to make the right choices. The Department’s specialty is to educate you to move beyond ready-made ideas. We help you build academic and professional credibility by teaching you solid statistical and analytical skills. You will be prepared to work in a variety of sectors including public policy, international trade, business, banking and finance, consulting, research, international development and advocacy.
