What will I learn?

Lakehead Arts One allows you to explore a range of disciplines from the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities without having to select a particular major until the end of your first year. University is a time for exploration – Lakehead Arts One allows you to take a mix of different courses throughout your first year to uncover your true passion. You will have the opportunity to choose courses from a variety of arts-based disciplines including: Anthropology, English, History, Indigenous Learning, Languages, Music, Outdoor Recreation, Parks and Tourism, Philosophy, Political Science, Sociology, Visual Arts, Women's Studies. To compliment this flexibility, you will also meet with a dedicated advisor who will help you discover your interests, career goals, and majors that suit your aspirations. Additionally, our Department holds workshops on exploring program options, and monthly coffee talks with faculty members to learn more about your options. As you near the end of your first year at Lakehead University, you will be ready to confidently select the program and major that is best suited to you.

Entry requirements

For international students

Applicants for admission must be graduates of a recognized university, college, or institute as well as show evidence of scholarly achievement. Except where otherwise stated in the Admission Requirements of a particular program, degree students must have a four year bachelor's degree or its equivalent with at least second class standing (B) based on their last 20 half courses or equivalent.An applicant holding a degree other than one in the discipline area to which admission is sought will be considered on the basis of courses taken and academic standing. A Qualifying Year at the undergraduate level may be required to meet the admission standards. Courses taken as part of a Qualifying Year can not be used as credit towards a graduate degree.The candidate must normally hold a four-year degree in the disciplines of Engineering or Natural Science (including, but not restricted to, Biology, Chemistry, Geology, Physics), with at least a 70% average, or equivalent Our minimum admission requirement for international applicants is 75% or 3.0 on a 4 point Canadian scale, with an accredited university degree equivalent to a Lakehead University 4 year degree.
