What will I learn?

Our MASc degree program is for students who want to pursue advanced research. Your work will advance knowledge in the field of electrical and computer engineering. You’ll study and work among a diverse cohort of MASc students from around the world. You will complete course work, seminars and defend your thesis in an oral examination under faculty supervision.As the field of data science continues to experience tremendous growth, industries’ need for skilled professionals who are able to solve complex data-related problems has surged.At the University of Victoria, our Master of Engineering in Applied Data Science (MADS) program prepares motivated students and IT professionals for careers at the forefront of the data-driven transformation of businesses worldwide.This one-year intensive academic program is offered jointly by the Department of Computer Science and Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. Three consecutive terms of coursework are followed by one to three optional co-op terms, in which students gain real work experience to complement what they’ve learned in class.Outcomes UVic’s Master of Engineering in Applied Data Science will allow you to:analyze and manage data sets efficiently and effectively, apply data analytic methods in solving problemsmanage security and privacy in problem solving and decision making, understand the role, ethics and responsibilities of an applied data scientisteffectively communicate technical knowledge of data science methods and projects and best practices to stakeholders and the broader community

Entry requirements

For international students

In order to be considered for admission to the MADS program, applicants must:meet the minimum admission requirements of the Faculty of Graduate Studies;have completed a Bachelor degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, or a related discipline from an academic institution recognized by the University of Victoria, normally with a first-class standing;meet the English Language Requirements.Equivalent of a minimum “B” average over the last two years of your degree
