What will I learn?

Students in the economics program will explore one of two streams economics and econometrics, which emphasizes theory (micro and macro), mathematics and statistical methods, and economics and society, which focuses on how the distribution of wealth and power affects the socioeconomic and physical environmentEconomics studies the choices that individuals, governments and corporations make using limited resources and under uncertainty. Our students gain analytical skills and a historical perspective as we analyze complex topics including employment, health, environment, commodity prices, economic growth and more.Our strength lies in our range, diversity and strong commitment to an open and inclusive intellectual environment. We offer a full range of modern programs from a variety of critical perspectives at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Entry requirements

For international students

The following are minimum requirements to be considered for entry into the program.Admission decisions are based on the qualifications of the applicant as well as the ability of the Department of Economics and the University of Manitoba to serve the applicant's intended program of study and area of specialization.To be considered for admission to the economics (MA) program, you must have a minimum of a four-year bachelor's degree (or equivalent) with a minimum GPA of 3.1.Normally, successful applicants for admission to the MA program will have completed an Honours degree in economics equivalent to that awarded by the University of Manitoba.
