Master of Education in Educational Administration (Course-based)

The Department of Educational Administration's Masters in Indigenous Educational Leadership is an academically rigorous course-based Masters degree specialization, designed to support current and aspiring leaders in Indigenous communities and educational organizations. Students take existing courses which are tailored to provide content specific to Indigenous educational contexts, there is greater attention to Indigenous perspectives in scholarship, and the instructors have relevant experience and knowledge. Other unique features of the IELC include intensive academic skill-building supports, an Advisory Group of Indigenous educational leaders, and courses taught by Indigenous instructors (mostly EADM graduates). Eight of the ten courses are offered online, with two Summer symposia, for a total of a 24 month program.The course-based program offers students the opportunity to pursue depth of understanding in areas of personal concern where in-person courses are scheduled to facilitate part-time study while students maintain their employment in schools, as well as full-time options available for those seeking that enrollment. Recently, more than 100 students have been provided the opportunity to engage in graduate education in their own communities (including one First Nation), with their own school-division colleague cohorts, and tailored to the specific needs of their school communities.
