About this course

What will I learn?

The audiology program at Dalhousie University involves three years of full-time study allotted to course work clinical practica and a research project or thesis. The program leads to a Master of Science (MSc) degree. Audiologists are health care professionals concerned with the diagnosis assessment rehabilitation and prevention of hearing loss and balance disorders.More specifically audiologistsperform hearing assessments to determine the degree and type of hearing lossadminister diagnostic tests to determine the sources and causes of hearing disorderuse state-of-the-art technology to evaluate and treat hearing loss in children and adultsfit amplification systems such as hearing aids or cochlear implantsscreen the hearing of newborns provide aural rehabilitation to individuals with hearing loss and their families to reduce communication problems and facilitate adjustments to hearing lossprevent hearing loss by educating the public and other professionals about the effects of noise on hearingCareer pathsAudiologists often work in collaboration with otolaryngologists family physicians nurses teachers social workers psychologists speech-language pathologists and other audiologists.

Entry requirements

For international students

A four-year bachelors degree from a university of recognized standing is required. An honours degree is a strong asset. A minimum GPA of 3.3 (on a 4.3 scale) is required by Dalhousie's Faculty of Graduate Studies. The GPA used in the admission process is calculated using the most recent 60 credit-hours (equivalent to 20 half credit courses) of undergraduate studies for which grades are available at the time of application. The Admissions Committee reviews each eligible candidates entire file. All components of the file are important. Applicants will be evaluated as objectively as possible based on the following criteria Past academic performance (GPA) Letters of recommendation Academic background and potential for graduate studies Relevant work or volunteer experience or special qualifications
