What will I learn?

The BA in Applied Languages and Translation Studies develops high levels of fluency in foreign languages and deep intercultural competence alongside technical literacy and digital skills. Applied Languages explores how languages function in real‑world professional contexts - from business communication to intercultural mediation and global content creation. Applied Language and Translation Studies (ALTS) at DCU is a modern, future-focused languages degree. It combines two foreign languages from Chinese, French, German, Japanese and Spanish, with professional skills in translation technology, AI tools, and intercultural communication. Entry requirements

For international students

Minimum H4 in French, German or Spanish. GCE A Level: Grade C in French, German or Spanish. FET Level 5 applicants should refer to DCU Admissions and CAO QQI FET requirements. Mature entry is competitive and requires a statement of interest. GCE: 2 GCE A Levels at Grade C + 4 GCE O Levels at Grade C, including Mathematics and English; or 2 GCE A Levels + 2 GCE AS Levels + 2 GCE O Levels at Grade C, including Mathematics and English; or 2 GCE A Levels + 1 GCE AS Level + 3 GCE O Levels at Grade C, including Mathematics and English. IB: Minimum score of 24, with at least 2 subjects at Grade 5 Higher Level and 4 subjects at Grade 4 Standard Level or above, including Mathematics and English.
