What will I learn?

The aim of this programme is to provide the learner with the necessary scientific knowledge, understanding and skill to build a career as a biotechnologist. Graduates of the programme will be enabled to work as highly qualified, multi-skilled scientists in industries spanning the biopharmaceutical, healthcare, medical device and environmental sectors and/or pursue advanced studies in Biotechnology at a Masters or Doctorate level.The learner will be skilled in a range of laboratory techniques underpinning the field of biotechnology. This will be enhanced by knowledge of experimental design and an appreciation of the ethical and legislative issues governing the industry. At Level 8 the learner will be able to conduct guided research where they will apply independent thinking, formulate and test hypotheses and make effective decisions. This course will enable the learner to develop transferrable skills in oral and written communication, teamwork, problem-solving, time and project management.

Entry requirements

For international students

Applicants are required to have the following: Level 7 – BSc in Biotechnology, or equivalent.

QQI

A minimum of a Level 7 qualification – BSc in Biotechnology (e.g. US731) or equivalent from another third level institution.

Further Education/Prior Learning Applicants

Applications will also be considered for Direct/Advanced Entry from those with a FETAC Level 5/6 qualification (or equivalent) and/or relevant prior learning.
