viewEntry RequirementsResearch InterestCourse StructureCareer OptionsHow to ApplyThe MLitt in Applied Linguistics and Intercultural Studies offers research degree opportunities for students with a specific interest in the field of Applied Linguistics and Intercultural Studies which cuts across current offerings in languages and cultures within SMLLC. The research profiles of staff members are very varied, covering applied linguistics, sociolinguistics, second language acquisition, corpus linguistics, bi- and multilingualism, second language pedagogy, intercultural studies, intercultural competence and the role of English in a globalised world. Research in related areas is also welcome, including language-specific research in applied linguistics and intercultural studies in (or through) German, Spanish or French. Students can graduate with the MLitt degree or, provided that their research is deemed of appropriate standard by the School Research Student Progression Committee, they can transfer into the structured PhD programme in Applied Linguistics and Intercultural Studies.

Entry requirements

For international students

Candidates for the MLitt must have obtained at least 2nd Class Honours Grade I in their primary degree, or equivalent. Candidates for all post-graduate degrees are required to have resided for a period of one academic year or its equivalent in France or a French-speaking region. Applicants must have a recognised primary degree which is considered equivalent to Irish university primary degree level.
