MSc Social Justice Studies

Ireland

2

What will I learn?

Social Justice concerns the fair and equal treatment of all individuals and social groups within a society. Social Justice Studies draw on a range of academic disciplines to advance understanding of issues including inequality, oppression, privilege, discrimination, and human rights abuses, as experienced by groups defined by their ‘race’, gender, class, sexuality, ability, and global position. It will appeal to those seeking to acquire the knowledge and skills to understand and challenge injustice and to help bring about positive social change.

You will have the opportunity to choose between the two majors:

  • SJC2 Equality Studies or
  • SJC3 Gender and Sexualities Studies

The MSc in Social Justice Studies equips students with theoretical frameworks and empirically grounded knowledge to gain a deep understanding of the nature of inequality, oppression, and power imbalances. It also fosters the development of an intersectional and critical vision for a just society and the practical tools needed to promote systemic justice and equality. Our faculty provides world-class expertise in areas such as the study of social class and economic inequality, gender and sexualities, political economy, human rights, racism and anti-racism, colonialism and decoloniality, policy and politics, social justice movements and activism. We are examining these issues in Ireland, Europe and in the wider global context.
