What will I learn?

PhD students in Artistic Research have to complete two distinct aspects as part of their research course: (1) a thesis c. 40,000 words (ie writing based on academic research and/or substantial self-reflection on creative practice) (2) an artistic research proposal, for example a major music project, an applied theater proposal, an applied filmmaking proposal, a creative writing proposal, an applied proposal in the traditional or contemporary arts, an applied dance proposal, an applied proposal in the community arts, or a proposal on any other suitable creative subject related to the Irish or Gaeltacht arts. The boundaries and requirements of the artistic research project are determined jointly with the directorate team and the Head of Department, and the Dean of Poems, Celtic Studies, and the Philosophies who will approve and confirm before announcing to the Postgraduate Studies Office, who will note. The student will be informed in writing at the beginning of the second year of the examination schedule and arrangements, as appropriate to the specific design of the project at hand. There will be two examination points as follows: (1) consideration of the artistic research proposal itself and (2) viva voce after the thesis has been extended. If the artistic research proposal is a public art event or a public performance, the examiners will be present at that event. inform the student in writing at the beginning of the second year
