What will I learn?

Studying Finance at Waikato University will prepare you for highly paid positions in the financial and business sectors anywhere in the world. Finance is focused on managing money, investments, banking and credit, the share, bond and commodity markets, and financial analysis and decision making. You'll gain a broad understanding of how the world's financial markets operate, and develop skills for financial analysis and decision-making. For example, you could end up running an investment fund, working for the World Bank, or structuring the finance of a major project for a corporation. Students will learn how to interpret financial data, forecast risk and returns, conduct shares and bond valuations, and understand mergers and acquisitions. And you'll be able to make sound investment decisions for your own personal financial security.

Entry requirements

For international students

The University of Waikato sets standards for English language proficiency for admission to the University for applicants whose first language is not English or te reo Māori. All international applicants, as well as New Zealand and Australian permanent visa holders, are required to provide satisfactory evidence of their proficiency in English.Applicants must achieve a minimum of 6 points taken from three subjects, achieving a minimum grade of C in at least one subject. Points calculated as follows: A = 5, B = 4, C = 3, D = 2, E = 1. AS Level grades are not included. To meet the English language requirements, you are required to obtain an E (pass) grade in an approved English-intensive GCE A-Level subjectsInternational Baccalaureate (taken in NZ or overseas) - Completed International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma with a minimum of 24 points.
